Anderson v1 pg372 - letter #370

                                                           P.P.

I am sending the Mass [Opus 86] at once. But for goodness’ sake don’t play on me the practical joke of magnanimously handing it out to the public embellished with huge mistakes –– Since it is being published so late, the dedication will have to be altered, namely, to Prince Kinsky.   You will receive further particulars of his titles –– That must be done –– Whether you will see me in the North, who can say in the chaotic conditions in which we four Germans are living? –– All good wishes.  I am composing three new symphonies, one of which is already finished [Anderson footnote: The first two are the seventh and eighth symphonies, Op. 92 and 93, and the third is probably a reference to Beethoven’s ideas for his ninth symphony, Op. 125.”]  and I have composed something up for the Hungarian Theatre as well – But in the sewer where I am living in Vienna all that work is as good as lost – If only I don’t lose myself completely –

All good wishes. Rejoice in the thought that things are better with you then with some other poor mortals ––

                                                                         Your most devoted
                                                                                                         Beethoven
